Each member of Dr. John Owsley's plastic surgery staff is exceptionally well trained and experienced, and committed to making every step of every procedure as comfortable and convenient as possible.
Our facial plastic surgery clinic is located at the Davies Medical Center/California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, and is linked to the support facilities at the hospital by a connecting corridor. Our operating room facilities and recovery equipment are state of the art and fully accredited.
A calm, comfortable atmosphere is important for cosmetic surgery patients during the postoperative recovery period. Because of his international reputation, almost half of Dr. Owsley's facial plastic surgery patients come from outside the San Francisco Bay Area. Whether you are coming from a great distance or live locally, we have several options available to provide a comfortable recovery and healing period for you.
Depending upon the procedure you select, your initial post-operative recovery period will be approximately 7 to 11 days. All patients, except those who undergo minor procedures, spend the first night after the operation under observation and sedation in our outpatient recovery facility. During this time. the patient is under the care of a professional registered nurse from Dr. Owsley's staff. When you choose to undergo a SMAS-platysma facelift, secondary facelift, revision facelift, browlift, eyelid surgery, a cheek/chin implant, rhinoplasty procedure, or a combination of procedures, you are assured of being treated with utmost care and warmth at our recovery facility.
Out-of-town patients may elect to transfer to a select hotel with medical attendants or nurses for their recovery. We have established relationships with a number of hotels that welcome our patients and have corporate discounts available. For transportation to and from our facial plastic surgery facility, we recommend a taxicab or a private car service.
During your initial postoperative recovery, we will schedule office visits every two to three days. You will be seen by Dr. Owsley, and when the time is appropriate, you will have your sutures removed. Approximately one week after your surgery, your office appointment will also include a complimentary lymphatic massage and camouflage makeup appointment (if applicable) with one of our Face Forward aestheticians.
The lymphatic massage is a very gentle, soft technique that moves lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic system, reducing swelling and congestion, and expediting the healing process. This treatment is highly beneficial after facial plastic surgery. The aesthetician will also recommend the optimal skin care home regimen to protect and nourish your skin after surgery.
When necessary, a member of our staff can be available to assist the patient at the hotel or at home, depending upon individual needs and circumstances. Our Patient Coordinators, who also schedule the arrangements for surgery, will counsel the patient by telephone and make plans for the patient's recovery needs prior to a patient's arrival. For extensive facial plastic surgery, a patient should plan to stay in the San Francisco Bay Area for at least ten days following the surgery.
