Browlift ( Forehead Lift) Surgery by Dr. John Owsley, MD, FACS

Often, the first signs of aging appear as lines across the forehead, and in a heavier, droopier look to the eyes. The brows begin to look bulky, and the eyes, which the poet William Blake called "the windows of the soul," appear hooded and set deeper into the skull, an undesirable development for most faces. A relatively simple and painless procedure, the browlift is skillfully performed by John Owsley, MD, FACS at his San Francisco clinic. Also known as forehead lift, this procedure results in a smoother forehead and the elimination of lines between the eyes.

Both men and women can benefit from the browlift/ forehead lift procedure. There are several reasons for undergoing a forehead lift, including:

The brow may droop either as an inherited characteristic (seen commonly in younger individuals) or as a result of age. This drooping can result in chronic contraction of the forehead muscles that lift the brows. This in turn creates transverse furrows in the forehead skin, which leads to permanent transverse wrinkles.

If you feel you could benefit from a forehead lift, consult Dr. Owsley at his San Francisco offices to learn more about the benefits of the forehead lift procedure.

Lifting the brow can reduce or eliminate furrows and transverse wrinkles on the forehead. Vertical frown lines may be corrected through surgical removal of the contracting muscles in the area in conjunction with a forehead lift. Dr. Owsley can also combine your brow lift at his San Francisco facility with another facial procedure such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), facelift, or cheek implants.

The Forehead Lift / Browlift by Dr. Owsley

Forehead lift operations by Dr. Owsley are often combined with an upper eyelid procedure. In these cases the frown-producing muscles beneath the eyebrows can be removed directly, and all of the dissection and removal of the muscles is done through eyelid incisions and small incisions behind the hairline.

When the eyelid incision is not used, an endoscopic technique is used when freeing the brows and removing the frown-producing muscles. The endoscope provides a magnified picture of the patient's anatomic structures from a video camera and fiberoptic light, visualized on a video monitor. When the forehead muscles and accompanying structure have been released, the brows can be repositioned and the correction maintained by supporting fixation sutures.

The brow lift results achieved by Dr. Owsley at his San Francisco clinic are predictably pleasing, and the forehead lift scars are small and inconspicuous, hidden in the hair. Symptoms of prolonged numbness or scalp itching associated with the open forehead lift do not occur with the endoscopic operation.

The endoscope can also be used for mini-lifts of the cheeks and temple area.
